Supporting Technical Operations
1st, 2nd and 3rd Line Support Engineers play a vital role in providing technical support to clients, customers and employees across an organisation. In technical environments, recruiting skilled support engineers is essential to help ensure systems and products operate smoothly.
1st Line Support roles often act as the initial point of contact for people experiencing technical issues. Roles can include Helpdesk Operator, First Line Support and IT Call Desk positions.
2nd Line Support is typically the next stage for resolving technical problems that cannot be fixed at first contact. 1st Line Support teams will usually escalate more complex issues to 2nd Line Support, where roles can include IT Technician, PC Engineer, Desktop Support and Technical Engineer.
Issues that cannot be resolved by 2nd Line Support may then be escalated to 3rd Line Support. These professionals usually specialise in more complex or technical areas of IT support, with job titles including Network Specialist, 3rd Line Engineer and Server Engineer.
The different levels of support create a clear progression route for technical professionals, with each stage requiring greater technical knowledge and responsibility when diagnosing and resolving issues.
