Creating the User-Facing Website Experience
A Front-End Developer’s role in a creative environment is to manage and develop the part of the website that users see and interact with. This requires a strong understanding of visual design, user interface (UI) and user experience (UX).
Front-End Developers work closely with Graphic Designers and wider creative teams to produce responsive designs that maximise both the branding and functionality of a website. They help ensure the site delivers a strong user experience while integrating seamlessly with the back end.
They will work to ensure there is an optimal response and conversion from website activity. Working across both agency-side and in-house teams, Front-End Developers will often report to a Head of Development, who provides support around the direction and delivery of website projects.
Front-End Developers typically specialise in languages and technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript and jQuery to create engaging user experiences. They may also work closely with Project Managers who oversee wider client requirements and project delivery.
Front-End Developers complement the work of Back-End Developers to help ensure the seamless operation of a website. These roles are highly technical, and specialising in one or more programming languages can provide a strong route for career progression within website development.
