Building the Back End of Digital Projects
In this technical development role, a Creative Back-End Developer is responsible for the creation, development and maintenance of the back end of websites, including the CMS. They will usually have skills in technologies such as PHP, open-source platforms or .NET.
Sitting within development teams, Creative Back-End Developers can work in both agency and client-side environments. These teams are often led by a Head of Development, combining strong software knowledge with responsibility for managing and developing the wider team.
There is usually a requirement to work to tight deadlines as the back end is developed as part of the wider project timeline. Although these roles are not always client-facing, they are crucial to the smooth delivery of new websites and digital projects.
Creative Back-End Developers also work closely with Front-End Developers, who build the user-facing elements of a website, helping to create a complete digital solution for businesses operating online.
Career progression can lead into roles such as Software Engineer, Full Stack Developer, Systems Architect, Data Engineer or Development Operations Engineer. When selecting candidates for interview, we look for evidence of continuous learning and development, relevant qualifications, tangible examples of work and other experience that demonstrates suitability for the role.
