Known as a ‘technical artist,’ the person in a Motion Designer job will work on film, TV and video creative where graphics are required required to appear on screen and complement filming or dominate visuals for viewers to consume. This is a very technical role where they will work in studio conditions to painstakingly ensure that the colours, style and effects are all right for the production and it has the desired effect. Usually experience within Photoshop, Illustrator or After Effects would produce the relevant VFX after effects required for the production.
The role is very common within agencies providing solutions for clients who have online video or produce commercials for TV that want to build brand or a call to action in their creative treatments. Some companies have Motion Designers internally, depending on the number of videos they create with graphics, especially where they provide product updates for a TV or online audience.
