The person in a Creative Director job is one of the most senior positions that exists within a creative agency and the role can overlap with a Managing Director position, dependent on the agency. Having had a career of creative experience, they will have been involved in significant campaigns that have been major for clients allowing for the Creative Director to have ‘earned their stripes.’ Creative Directors exist within a range of agency sizes, from independents through to large agencies that are part of national or international groups.
Creative Directors will be client facing and confident, very creative and commercial whilst having the ability to create teams and grow them successfully for the benefit of their client base. Many will have begun life as a Copywriter or been an Art Director yet not necessarily been hands-on creative. Thinking creatively, strategically and coming up with the award-winning “big idea” will normally have got this person to where they are. Experience in print backgrounds all lends itself to digital campaigns and this where successful Creative Directors and creative agencies are flourishing at present.
