The Design Recovery+ 'Perspective' Event - Sponsored by The Candidate

The Candidate are proud to be partnering with Design Recovery+, a Manchester based event that provides a safe space for people to talk openly about mental health. The're latest event, 'Perspective', will take place on the 23rd June 2022 at 6:30pm at Colony Co-Working's new site in Ancoats, and The Candidate will be providing complimentary refreshments on the evening!

Who are you?

Design Recovery+ aims to raise awareness and provide a safe space for people to talk openly about Mental Health. We implore people to come along and listen whilst engaging a community that wouldn’t normally raise Mental Health as a topic of discussion. We’re primarily a Manchester-based event however we’ve also hosted online talks through Covid to help people negotiate the pandemic!

The event itself was founded by local creatives, Jordan, Rachel, Graham, and James.

Where do you come from?

The idea for Design Recovery+ came from attending many networking events and realising more often than not, that mental health wasn’t a main topic of discussion. It soon became apparent that there wasn’t a safe space for people to feel comfortable talking about their mental health without any stigma attached to it. We wanted Design Recovery+ to foster a calm environment where people could talk openly about mental health (if they wanted to) and to not feel alone by knowing they’re in a room with other people who might be suffering similarly to themselves.

Why do you do it?

Life brings its own challenges and distractions and it can be easy to lose sight of your own mental health. Design Recovery is about providing an opportunity for anyone to speak freely about their experiences and how they’ve overcome difficult situations or personal challenges. We aim to ensure a very relaxed setting for each event ensuring people can come along and see a welcoming friendly face whilst listening to a selection of speakers from all different walks of life chat about their own mental health.

When is the event and who would benefit from it?

Our next event is on the 23rd of June and is taking place in Colony Co-Working’s new Silk Street venue which is located in Ancoats. The theme this time will be “Perspective” which seems fitting for us to look at how we’ve overcome some of the struggles and challenges we’ve all faced in the last two years. It’s completely free to attend, but we do provide a donation box for anyone wanting to donate to Mind.
