From Software to Send-Outs - Meet Ellie Martin, Data & Technology Recruitment Consultant

Ellie has had an exciting and varied background - from mixing cocktails for A-List celebs, to venturing into the world of software development! She recently joined our Data & Technology team, where her deep understanding of the industry helps her find Candidates their dream roles, whilst ensuring Clients are getting the top talent around. Read all about her experience of joining The Candidate below!

Ellie Martin - Data & Technology Recruitment Consultant

Lovely to have you onboard, Ellie! First of all, tell us, what is your background and experience?

My background resides in Software Development and hospitality! I jumped straight into the working world as a waitress; from there I worked hard to move up to get into some very prestigious hotels as a Mixologist - serving some fab guests such as Angelina Jolie, Daniel Radcliff, and Chris Hemsworth! After working in the hospitality industry for a few years, I decided to go down the path of Software Development…

I learnt SO much about the software world – including the business practices around software development. My tech stack as a developer is as follows: C#, .Net, SQL, CSS, HTML, Bootstrap, JavaScript- as well as working as a Microsoft partner, being proficient in all aspects of Office 365, and completing Microsoft Fundamentals courses! Through this role I also completed a project management certification- AgilePM, of which I hold both foundation and practitioner levels.

What attracted you to The Candidate before you started? Has it lived up to your expectations?

I was actually looking for software development roles in Manchester and came across The Candidate in my research! Although the role I originally went for wasn't a good fit, Phil, the Senior Tech Recruitment Consultant, asked if I’d ever considered recruitment- and I’ll be honest… I hadn’t! I decided to go through the interview process and see what The Candidate could offer, after speaking with the team, I was extremely intrigued as to what I could do with this role, and so far, it’s been even better than expected!

What is your role at The Candidate and what type of things do you work on?

My role at The Candidate is as a technology recruitment consultant, I work on all things tech- and sometimes data too! The roles I work on are mainly in the tech sector and range from backend developers to UX designers - I work closely with my team to cover all areas of this huge industry! Sometimes I dip my toes into the research sector and recruit for Client Directors and Research Managers.

What is the best thing about working at The Candidate?

My favourite thing about working at The Candidate is the amazing culture - I’ve never experienced a workplace that is so united and transparent! Everyone was so welcoming from day one, always offering to lend a hand and teach me the tricks of the trade. I can honestly say I look forward to coming into the office to have a chat and a giggle with the rest of my team - and obviously also to do loads of fabulous recruiting!
