From Influencers to Analytics - Sam Carr, Recruitment Consultant

We catch up with Sam Carr, our Analytics Recruitment Consultant, about his experience transitioning from influencer marketing to data-driven recruiter, how he's finding life at The Candidate so far, and most importantly - the free breakfasts!

Lovely to have you onboard! First of all tell us, what is your background and experience?

I am now 6 months into my recruitment career, prior to this I have 3.5 years of marketing experience. I specialised in influencer marketing and worked across both brand and agency sides in different capacities, from running campaigns to managing accounts, talent management and insights utilising various tools. I wanted the chance to put the experience that I had within the client facing side towards my next career move, and so far it has helped me to get a better grasp of recruitment and the market.

What attracted you to The Candidate before you started?

I had actually heard of The Candidate off the back of a recommendation by an independent recruiter who I spoke with to get a deeper understanding of a career in recruitment. I asked him what some of the best recruitment agencies based in Manchester were for my marketing background, and he recommended The Candidate, he said that from a cultural perspective it is what you want to go for if you’re starting out as going to a more cut-throat place can really turn people away from recruitment in their first year.

What was the recruitment process like?

I applied on The Candidate site and in less than an hour I had Elliot Jones (Marketing and eCommerce Recruitment Manager) calling me and finding out more about me. From there, I had another call with my now manager Leif Radford (Recruitment Director and Analytics Specialist) and Elliot to go over my experience and why I wanted to work in recruitment. I then had a call with Brian Matthews (Director and Founder) who gave me an offer based upon my psychometric test results, and I accepted!

What is your role at The Candidate and what type of things do you work on?

I am a recruitment consultant and I work within the data and analytics market. I work on various roles such as data analyst, web analysts, data engineers etc. It’s great working with some really big clients and helping candidates find a role and working culture that suits them!

What is the culture like?

The culture is great, it’s a very supportive environment within the team. My biggest concern with starting in recruitment was the very cut-throat culture and lack of work/life balance, however so far I haven’t found that to be the case at all!

What is the best thing about working at The Candidate?

The best thing about working at The Candidate is the free breakfast… the team nights out, fun office, and supportive culture help too of course haha!

Who should speak to you?

People with a background in data and analytics or people with a desire to get into the market. You will be surprised with some of the transferrable skills built up in marketing roles for example that can be used within analytics. If you enjoy data, have a desire to build upon these skills, and break into a well-paid, fast-growing, in-demand industry - LET ME KNOW!
