From a Modelling Agency to a Recruitment Agency - Meet Rachel Beattie, Agency Recruitment Consultant

With a background in the fashion industry, Rachel has gone from booking models to booking interviews! After joining The Candidate 8 months ago, she has gone from strength to strength - and is now a key member of our Agency Recruitment team, working with huge agencies and making some impressive placements! We chat with her to find out about her experience so far...

Rachel Beattie - Agency Recruitment Consultant

Lovely to have you onboard! First of all tell us, what is your background and experience?

I’ve been at The Candidate for around 8 months, prior to this the majority of my experience has been in the Fashion Industry. I graduated from The University of Leeds in 2020 with a first-class degree in Fashion Marketing (Industry). I’ve interned as a Stylist, Social Media Exec and Showroom Assistant and my previous job was as a model booker at a Manchester modelling agency!

What attracted you to The Candidate before you started? And what was the recruitment process like?

I had heard of The Candidate as I had seen their job ads on Reed and was aware of their excellent reputation within the Digital Marketing sector. I applied with my CV to see what ecommerce/social media opportunities were available. I originally spoke with Jamie (who is a Marketing Recruitment Consultant) and then Elliot (our Associate Director and eCommerce Recruitment Manager) and they asked me if I’d ever considered recruitment! The more I spoke with Elliot the more I could imagine myself working at The Candidate, and he was completely transparent with me about the day-to-day responsibilities and what I could expect from the role.

What is your role at The Candidate and what type of things do you work on?

I work in the Agency department and specialise in Client Services and Media Sales opportunities. Most of the roles I recruit in are account handling such as Account Executive/Account Manager positions, where the candidate is heavily involved with campaign solutions in order to meet their client’s needs. I enjoy recruiting in these roles as it’s interesting to hear the huge global clients my candidates work with and the impact these campaigns have!

What is the culture like?

The culture at The Candidate has completely exceeded my expectations. The entire team are so friendly, sociable, and genuinely care about one another. I think recruitment can have a reputation for being highly competitive, but The Candidate couldn’t be more different – everyone wants the best for each other, and we hype one another up daily! We have regular socials and days out such as drinks in the Northern Quarter, Go Karting, Chester Races and later in the year everyone’s going away for a long weekend in Barcelona.

What is the best thing about working at The Candidate?

There are so many, but my favourite is the ability to finish early on a Friday from 12:30pm! The work-life balance at The Candidate is a huge part of the company’s ethos and we’re often encouraged to switch off from work and enjoy our weekends after a productive week.
