The skills you'll need to be successful in this area include the following:

  • You will need to develop and maintain relationships with clients and key stakeholders within businesses. These types of people will have a range of personalities so outstanding interpersonal skills are essential (as is a lot of patience!)
  • Understanding objectives and KPI's and how they fit into overall strategy is a skill that you'll develop over the time as an account manager
  •  Having an independent and reliable persona is a great foundation for success in this area
  • Having the ability to expand your technical knowledge of the disciplines of the accounts you manage without actually having hands-on experience is a usual facet of this role.

The organisations we work with range from advertising agencies who work with global blue chip clients offering relatively sophisticated products through to agencies managing clients who solely invest their budget into search-based campaigns. If it's client side account management you are looking for, these are rarer in the sense of "Account Manager" as their business would need to be structured like that e.g. a travel company with various airline clients and car hire suppliers who will need account managing.

Account Manager Positions across the North West are in high supply. This is due to the fact that in an emerging digital marketing sector, many of the all-around Account Managers have specialised in fields such as search marketing. This has seen a reduction in these account managers and now we're experiencing a senior skills gap in this area. This will ultimately mean that the right candidate who operates in this area will have the opportunity to progress well in their career in the region.
