Account Management jobs exist in digital marketing because of the size and scale of the activities that campaigns undertake. Normally working in an agency environment, the account management job would entail working on one or more client accounts, being the person who takes the brief and communicates that internally. They may compile and interpret the results of their marketing activities and keep the client relationship with the agency going strong.

Account Management roles normally begin as an account assistant where they will normally learn the ropes of managing low-level aspects of a campaign. After a year or so, they will have gained confidence through training and hands-on activity to become an Account Executive. An Account Manager role will follow after a few years and those that have developed well, built strong relationships, delivered strong results and are becoming an asset to the agency they are at will eventually become an Account Director. This can take up to 5 years from the assistant level role beginnings.
