An Account Director job will normally have spent 4 or 5 years learning their trade in previous Account Assistant, Account Executive and Account Manager positions. They will have a detailed knowledge of a range of different client’s sectors and how digital marketing can be applied to their advertising strategies to fulfil their company objectives. They will be the main campaign related contact for their clients and have built strong relationships with client side contacts like Marketing Managers or Marketing Directors.

Account Directors will work strategically across the clients they work with, applying their detailed knowledge of digital marketing to their campaigns and help direct and develop them. They will also troubleshoot if any problems should arise and help resolve issues. It is key to remember that Account Directors work for advertising agencies and not clients and therefore their commercial objectives lie within the agency not the top line client objectives.
