Finding Recruitment

Recruitment certainly wasn't what I saw myself doing when I was younger. I graduated with a Law degree from university and the plan was to train as a Solicitor, however I came to the realisation very quickly, that it wasn't the career path for me. So I did what anyone in my position would do.. I went travelling.

When I came back I still had no idea what I wanted to do for a career.

A lot of people joke about the different types of jobs I have had over the years; when I was studying I worked in pubs, gyms, a pharmacy and even a travel agency.... The one common factor was the interaction with people and I knew I needed a career which was people focussed . A friend mentioned recruitment, however I kept getting knocked back at the final stage of the interviews. The reason why? They thought I was too nice. From then, I was determined that I would work in recruitment and I would be successful. I’m nothing, if not stubborn, and hate being told I can’t do something so I was going to prove a point.

Developing my career

My sales experience was lacking so I took on a commission only direct sales job where I definitely learned a lot and it gave me the skills and resilience to move my career forward. Following this, I managed to get my first job in recruitment. I started working at a small agency recruiting for temporary industrial roles, very high volume warehouse operatives and cleaners mainly. After one year, I moved to an International FTSE250 business and this is where I really started to develop.

Fast forward, and I have recruited across Yorkshire and the North West initially within Transactional Finance and Business Support roles, moving most recently to recruit within the Marketing space. 9 years on, I have definitely proved my point and found a career I love in the process. The road has been hard at times, however looking back, I wouldn't change it for the world. Yes you have bad, even horrendous days, but the good times, the buzz when things are going well, outweigh the bad.

The Candidate

I wasn't actively looking for a new opportunity when I first interviewed at The Candidate. More dipping my toe in the water, however something really struck me from my first meeting... these guys genuinely care. They care about each other, their clients and most importantly the candidates they represent. Throughout the process I was excited by their vision for the future and impressed to have found a company with such great ethics. To top it all off, everyone I met with was great, and dare I say it, really nice.

Don't get me wrong, making the decision to leave my job was not easy, because I was comfortable, loved my team and knew my job inside out. However, the decision to join The Candidate, was easy.

It’s week one; I already feel part of the team and cannot wait to see what 2018 holds.
