The Candidate Ltd

The Candidate are recruiting for a fully remote Software Engineer to join a thriving digital agency. Diving immediately into greenfield development of both internal and external systems, with a keen focus on building secure and scalable back end infrastructure, the Software Engineer will collaborate with a talented team of engineers to create entirely bespoke solutions to a variety of technical challenges.

As an agency, our client is a Shopify partner who represents various exciting brands across the UK’s eCommerce industry. Having built a reputation on an engineering first approach, the agency build every single project entirely bespoke – focusing on delivering scalable and secure solutions built to last rather than delivering only against speed. Due to the continued growth and demands for their services, the engineering team are recruiting for a Software Engineer to join the business.

From a technical stance, there will be an element of full stack in this role, but the core focus revolves around back end development. Building new modules across a variety of projects using Node.js, the Software Engineer will host all infrastructure using Amazon Web Services whilst working with big data using MongoDB. Here and there, you will be tasked with front end challenges using React.js but this will only be a small proportion of your time. It’s worth noting, that if you are not experienced in React (any may have touched other front end JavaScript frameworks) or used similar cloud tech (such as Azure), there are plenty of training opportunities to upskill with the business setting aside regular time each Friday for members of the team to continue their learning on new technology. Longer term in the role, the Software Engineer will be expected to dip into their Shopify APIs but there’s no expectation for you to have worked this niche in previous roles.

This role is fully remote (now and forever). The whole business has thrived under their remote culture and their team offer everything from team events, training hours (in core business hours) and much more to treat their teams right.

Key Responsibilities of the Software Engineer:

  • Create back end functionality for both internal and external systems whilst occasionally supporting the front end team with their demand
  • Linking various Shopify APIs into their MongoDB database & Node.js back end modules
  • Continuously stay up to date with new technology whilst keeping an eye on opportunities to wider the modern stack used by the agency
  • Report directly into the Head of Development as you progress quickly into a senior / leadership role

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Commercially experienced software engineer with a passion for full stack JavaScript.
  • Able to delve into various Node.js back end modules with a core emphasis on the back end element of software engineering
  • Ideally experienced using MongoDB but any other relational database exposure is fine as training in on offer
  • Hosted infrastructure and modules through cloud functionality; ideally using AWS but training can be offered for those with similar experience such as Azure
  • Happy to dive into the front end engineering on occasion, with various Shopify API links & React.Js hosted across their technical stack

What’s In It For You:

  • Genuinely friendly atmosphere with one of the most progressive remote environments in the industry
  • Directly route into a Senior/Lead role as they’ve ambitious plans for the new teams
  • Salary up to £50,000
  • Entirely custom workstation (mac, pc, linux, standing desk, three screens – whatever floats your boat!)
  • Cycle & Tech Schemes
  • Company updates sessions every other Friday with entirely transparent business updates
  • End of year company-wide bonuses
  • Hack days & events
  • Staff discounts
  • Strong culture based around their remote first approach
  • 23 days annual leave + BH + An extra week shutdown at XMAS
