My client are on the lookout for a passionate, innovative Lead Data Scientist to join their Marketing Analytics team, who will help them in their mission to become the most data led Marketing department in holidays and beyond!

You’ll need to be curious about people and their behaviour, able to use data to illustrate both expected and unexpected behaviours that will drive best in class marketing and be a critical player in delivering their ambitious targets.

Specifically, they’re looking to transform the interaction between their marketing channels by better understanding the customer and what nudges them towards purchase in a highly complex, longer than most purchase cycle.

You’ll create Machine Learning models to create best in class automated Marketing operations, optimising marketing spending, improving its reach and effectiveness across different channels including PPC, SEO, CRM, DRTV and ATL & PR / content.

You will help build a team that can use the most appropriate technique for the particular question they are trying to answer or task they are trying to improve.

Travel is an extremely dynamic and fast-paced industry so you will get the opportunity to work on many varied projects involving data.


  • Work with Product Managers and the Marketing teams to scope new Data Science products to support our growth.
  • Work together with the Software Engineering team to productionise and integrate ML algorithms into our backend systems.
  • Lead, coach, and grow a team of accomplished data scientists and engineers to achieve value
  • Work closely with the Data team to understand value of customer segments and devise strategy on how to effectively target individual segments
  • Develop ML algorithms focusing in particular on Marketing channels optimisation and spend efficiency.
  • Stay up to date with industry innovations, latest martech and best practice to continually improve and bring best in class thinking to On the Beach
  • Identify the triggers for our highest LTV customers and ways to improve customer loyalty
  • Transform our abandon basket strategy to deliver best in class programme of activity to convert users by better understanding barriers and user journey (pretty complex in holiday purchase)
  • Overhaul our approach to capturing data to give us richer data from more of our users
  • Identify innovative new ways of understanding the dynamics between our marketing channels and how we can use this to optimise our spend efficiencies.

About you:

  • Highly experienced in applying machine learning techniques (Regression, Random Forest, Gradient Boosting, and Neural Networks) to model customer behaviour
  • Strong knowledge of statistics as applied to data science. You can explain OLS regression and confidence intervals to someone who has never heard of either
  • You can programme in either Python or R as well as SQL. You keep up to speed with recent developments in your language.
  • Experience of working within a Marketing department
  • You are able to cut through the noise and identify opportunities that will drive the most value within marketing
  • You love to experiment and you get a buzz out of using data to solve problems
  • You understand marketing concepts and have experience of customer segmentation, lifetime value modelling, churn prediction and econometrics
  • Ability to communicate findings to others, including at a senior level
