Lead Data Scientist - Manchester - Up to £85,000

As the first Data Scientist in their organisation's history, you will be hands-on and build statistical models and digital solutions to extract value and create actionable recommendations; influencing business decisions and driving digital transformation. You will use data and an interdisciplinary focus to identify and solve complex business problems within a global e-commerce company. Besides you will identify and operationalise valuable insights from the data into business and digital applications. The Data Scientist will partner with internal/external stakeholders, product owners and team members and drive product development plans as well as methodological innovations into data science and digital products in the customer analytics, supply chain, operations optimisation and more.

Day to day, you will:

• Build statistical models from data and using the best coding practices to generate reproducible work
• Explore and visualise data to present the story of data in a meaningful way
• Employ sophisticated analytical methods, machine learning and statistical methods to prepare data for use in predictive and prescriptive modelling
• Develop new algorithms to solve problems and build programs to automate repetitive work
• Communicate predictions and findings to management and various departments through effective data visualisations and reports
• Draw on technical and analytical standards from across government and industry and taking an interdisciplinary focus

About you:

• Significant working experience as a Data Scientist; building data science models and products, ideally for an e-commerce company
• A background in machine learning, quantitative methods, predictive modelling, statistics or similar
• Excellent track record of delivery using languages like Python, R, Excel, Jira
• Willingness to build on and experiment with data science platforms and solutions
• Ability to effectively communicate data science results and analytics value to business stakeholders
