Here at The Candidate, we are partnered with an exciting Financial Services business on their technological transformation as they search for a Head of Software Development to join their team. Operating on a fully remote basis, the Head of Software Development will be the pivotal driver behind the business expanding their offerings and evolving into a tech first environment. You will have the opportunity to establish your own culture of best practises whilst growing a team to support your vision. Reporting directly into the Managing Director, the Head Of Software Development will bridge the gap between day to day operations of the development team and the strategic vision of the business to ensure our client is able to stay one step ahead of their competition. With technology at the core of all this business does, the Head of Software Development will shape not only the immediate business landscape, but also the business projection for years to come.

As the Head of Software Development, you will be naturally driven towards new technology with exceptional commercial awareness. Leading by example, you will manage a strong development team consisting of a Lead Developer, two Senior Developers, three Midweight Developers and a team of Business Analysts. Alongside the day to day team management, you must be commercially driven with the capability to mentor and develop your software team. Equally, you must be confident about creating a positive team culture as you will be responsible for the recruitment of additional development talent.

For the successful candidate, this opportunity to become the Head of Software Development will not only provide the autonomy to integrate new technology to a highly motivated business, you will also have the chance to prove you strategic aspirations and transition into a CTO position. Leading a highly talented team, it is the responsibility of the Head of Software Development to inspire those around them to create fluent and practical software products.

 

Key Responsibilities for the Head of Software Development:

  • Responsible for the end to end delivery of software products throughout the entire software development lifecycle from concept, development, testing and delivery.
  • Report directly into the Managing Director alongside further reporting into business stakeholders and the board of directors.
  • Mentoring your software development team with both hands on knowledge and inspiration.
  • Manage expectations through accurate estimation of project requirements and team delivery deadlines.
  • Lead on the greenfield development of new products which support the business strategy.
  • Responsible for the development team budget including all recruitment activities and growth.
  • Maintenance of cloud services through Azure.
  • Management of CICD pipeline (Automated front end / back end systems).

 

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Proven track record of managing development teams as they build projects through from concept to
  • Strong portfolio of delivered software products for which you have been directly responsible for either the creation or the management of the team.
  • Talented and passionate about full stack development using C#, .Net & React.
  • Knowledge of deployment systems (Team City & Octopus).
  • Ability to guide the transition into a fully agile environment whilst ensuring current deliverable deadlines are achieved.
  • Thorough understanding of developing long term strategic plans to achieve software development roadmaps.
  • Constantly up to date with new technology with the commercial acumen to integrate new tech into business operations to achieve department growth.
  • Naturally driven to succeed with a long term goal of securing a CTO position.
  • Confident and capable communicator who’s able to relay both inspiration to your team and project updates to internal stakeholders.
